In Dagger Of The Mind, this highly revealing scene occurs:
Kirk is plainly NOT as happy to see Noel as she is to see him.
Kirk is very concerned about Spock's reaction.
Noel doesn't have any idea why Kirk's acting so weird.
Spock's more attuned to Kirk's mood than Noel is.
Why, yes, Mr. Spock, as a matter of fact, there IS a problem!
Spock, allow me to assure you that that bitch means absolutely NOTHING to me!
End of scene, end of Noel's illusions. Mission accomplished!
BTW, why is Spock even there? There are already two guys manning the transporter.

"So what?", you may wonder. Well, you see, Kirk is plainly unhappy about Noel making like he's intimate with her, when he barely knows her... especially in front of Spock. Spock is quite clearly rather amazed that Noel seems to think she should/could mean something to Kirk, and Kirk is pretty definite about discouraging her, apparently for Spock's sake.
This scene is incomprehensible if you are assuming that Kirk is heterosexual, single and free, but if you assume that he is Gay, and Spock is his lover, then it suddenly makes perfect sense, and becomes an emotionally dramatic scene.
I don't believe that the creators intended for this scene to make no damn sense. I believe that they intended for us to understand that Kirk is Gay, that Spock is Gay, they BOTH are Gay, and they are GAY TOGETHER.
P.S.
At the end, Spock catches the mind-altered Kirk embracing Noel, is clearly deeply dismayed, and physically interposes himself between Noel and Kirk from that moment forward.

Look, it's not even subtle. |
