Meet Mina, Mistress of Chibi-Trek:

See Chibi-Uhura spanking Chibi-Chekov

Q) Your Chibi-Trek art is brilliant, amusing, and totally unique. What was your original inspiration for the series?

Boredom, my love of anime, and a question from Farfalla. We were in a soils class together when she wrote me a note asking "Q: what would Chibi-Spock look like?" The lecture that day was boring, so I drew Chibi Spock and added the note "something like this". I'm not a big fan of TOS (I'm more TNG), but it was fun to do and it's what started this whole mess. Chibi Trek just snowballed since then.

Q)You picture the Trek characters as being into kinky sex - Spock, Kirk and McCoy playing with whips and chains, Uhura spanking a happy Chekov - why?

Eh heh heh... The "Spank Me" pic was a request by Farf for Rose and Gold. The others...I dunno. I just thought it would be fun. And seeing pictures of that kind of stuff is a turn-on for me. Chibis don't do it for me because the chibis aren't that detailed. But other people seem to like the pics, and as long as I enjoy drawing it and people enjoy seeing it, I'll keep doing chibi kinky. (I think I just coined a new phrase.)

Q)I can't believe I never noticed before how alike Spock and Dr. Frank N. Furter are. The scales have fallen from my eyes. I'll never see Rocky Horror the same way again. Here's my question: How can I ever thank you enough?

::laughs:: Well, that works. But if you know of anybody who might be interested in the stuff I've drawn (not just the chibis), please spread the word. And encourage people to sign my guestbook. I love it when people sign.

Q)Can people give you ideas? I would love to see you do Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scott with long hair, in Sergeant Pepper's uniforms, for example?

Oh, sure! I love it when people request stuff, because chances are I won't think of it. I even have a field on my guestbook form titled "request-a-drawing". I just ask for 3 things when people give me a request: 1, if there's nothing like what they want already on my site, if they could send me a picture of what they'd like (i.e. Sergeant Pepper's uniforms), 2, if they could specify if they want it colored or not, and 3, that they be patient. Black and white chibis are the easiest to whip out, black and white 'serious' pics take a little more time, especially when I'm working from a photo. Color pictures take a long time to finish. "Spirky Horror Picture Show - Full Cast" took several hours to draw and color, and by the time I was done, I was exhausted from the tedious job of coloring. But generally I don't color the same day that I draw because coloring takes forever. Turnaround is only as fast as I have time (I am a student) and/or a deadline's approaching, like you need the pic for a certain thing at a certain time.

Q)Why are so many of your drawings done on notebook paper?

Because inspiration can come at the worst times, like when I'm on campus and don't have access to anything but my notebook. I've since gotten a sketchbook that I haul around campus. And after I got that one (which is huge) I found one of my smaller ones that easily fits in my bookbag. Which is good. But I don't always keep the sketchbook with me, which is why my recent "Switched Elements" pic (a Haruka&Michiru pic) is on lined paper. On the bright side, when the urge strikes me when I'm at home, I've got 2 sketchbooks to draw in.

Q)That image of Khan getting his comeuppance is so deeply satisfying to view. More Chibi-Trek, forever! What are your plans for Chibi-Trek art of the future? Dare I say... COMIC STRIP?

Heh heh, thanks. Comic strip? Hmm, I don't know. If people want to write out a scenario and have me illustrate it, I'm all for it. I just don't know the TOS crew's personalities to be able to come up with stuff myself. As for Chibi Trek art of the future, well, let's see what happens. :)
